In attendance at the just ended Ghana at 62 independence day celebrations were Her Excellency Mrs. Sophia Horner-Sam , Ghana’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Mr. M.H Idris Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. George K. De Souza Head of Consular Affairs and some dignitaries from Ghana- Hon Sandra Owusu Ahinkorah MCE Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly , Hon Felicia Adwoa Adomako MCE Tema West Municipal Assembly , Hon Hajia Selma Muhammad Sani Adams MCE Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly and Mrs Mary Ofori, wife of Hon Kofi Ofori MCE Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly.
The Ambassador in her speech lauded the efforts of the organisers for putting up a cultural and historic event that brings together all Ghanaians living in the Netherlands. She however encouraged attendants to invest their money and expertise back home to build the nation Ghana. She proposed this year to be the ”Year of return”, she also touched on the importance of unity amongst Ghanaians in the diaspora.
Performing on the day was Sherifa Gunu, Sandy Bee, Lucky boy ,Nana B and Live performance by A.B. Crentsil and the Origin band, They all entertained the audience with splendid performances.
Awards were given to deserving Ghanaians who had distinguished themselves and shown patriotism in all their endeavors. Some of the people awarded included ,Nana Akosua Kusiwaa ,Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko, Agartha Frimpong, Rev. Emmanuel Koney, Don Cedar, Osei Kofi Hyiaman, Cynthia Tackey, Sam Danso, Rev. Kwabena Quayson, Veronica van der Kamp and Kofi Ayivor formerly of Osibisa who is domiciled in the Netherlands.
The Special guest for the event in the person of AB Crentsil was also honoured at the colouful event. He however pleaded that the plight of the ageing musicians in Ghana should be addressed and made aware the existence of the Ageing Musicians Welfare Fund (AMWeF)a fund established by Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).The organizers of the program also acknowledged Sharifa Gunu’s immense contribution to the Ghana Music Industry and good works towards women empowerment in Ghana with an award.

In a chat with one of the organizers of the program Akwaaba Holland’s Sammy Lartey said that the Independence day program is one of a kind that is used to reach and sell Ghana to people in Europe.
